Croke Park Reaches New Heights

Galco are proud to have been involved with the newly opened Etihad Croke Park Skyline.
Over 100 tonnes of steel were used to complete the project, 5 viewing platforms which include a specially designed walkway section suspended above the Croke Park pitch offer unique perspectives of Dublin’s celebrated landmarks.
Installed within the existing roof structure of the Cusack, Hogan and Davin stands, the 14 meter three dimensional (U-Truss) walkway sections were fabricated by Siac Butler Steel at their facility in Portlaoise before being transported to Galco for hot dip galvanising.
Weight constraints required fabrication of the sections from box section steel as the existing structure was not originally designed to carry a future walkway, this in turn posed extra galvanising challenges of venting, drainage and double dipping. Both Siac Butler and Galco design teams liaised to ensure that these challenges were overcome. After Galvanising the sections were finally inspected and batch tested to ensure compliance with the relevant galvanising standard I.S. EN ISO 1461: (2009).
Galco also committed to a quick turnaround of galvanising and delivery back to Siac Butlers as a fast tracked project completion date of May 2012 was set and achieved.
Sponsored by Etihad Airways, the roof top tour of Croke Park boasts the most spectacular panoramic views of Dublin City and it surroundings from 44 meters or 17 storeys above the ground. Recently visited by the Olympic torch the tour is now open to the public although not for the faint hearted!
